Idriss Zahidi
Ward B Council
Idriss Zahidi, a Moroccan immigrant, has lived in Jersey City for twenty-five years. Raised in the city’s public schools, he attended Martin Luther King Jr. School, PS #11, Frank R. Conwell Middle School (MS #4), and Ronald E. McNair Academic High School (MAHS). After completing his K–12 education locally, he pursued undergraduate and graduate studies in biological sciences at New York University.
Idriss later decided to bring his skills back to the very school system that shaped him. He accepted this call to service and began teaching at William L. Dickinson High School (WDHS), where he currently serves as a life sciences teacher. Now in his fifth year, Idriss has worked with students from all backgrounds across Jersey City, thanks to the district’s Open Enrollment policy.
Beyond the classroom, Idriss has advanced science instruction through a vertical professional learning project that connects multiple grade levels across the district. His goal is to better prepare younger students for the academic rigor of secondary school. His dedication and leadership have earned him recognition from colleagues and administrators, culminating in his selection as WDHS’s 2024–2025 Teacher of the Year.
Building on his academic and professional journey, Idriss is now ready to expand his service to the community as councilman for Ward B. As a teacher, he has committed himself to being an educator, mentor, and lifelong learner. As a public servant, he is eager to listen to residents, advocate for their needs, and work toward meaningful change.
